Air Jordan 5 Anthracite

It’s a new month with a new slate of releases. This week AMBUSH is unloading collaborations with Nike and Converse, Jordan Brand is adding a new colorway to its Jordan 5 and Jordan 12 catalog, and Reebok is focusing on sustainability in a new collaboration with Story MFG. Find out what other releases caught our attention in The Drop List.

Jordan Brand is back this week to deliver MJ’s fifth signature shoe in a fresh colorway with the Air Jordan 5 Anthracite. The Anthracite offers all of the key design attributes one would look for in a Jordan 5, but this time with a twist.

Decorated in a Wolf Grey, Anthracite, and black color scheme, the Jordan 5 Anthracite is a collage of materials. A mix of black textile and suede form the upper, in addition to a netted translucent quarter panel that is prominent in most Jordan 5 designs. Instead of a traditional reflective tongue, the tongue is constructed of a shimmering black textile. The reflective qualities are now located on the design’s netted quarter panel and lower tongue. A Jumpman insignia and the number “23” are embroidered on the heel. Black and silver midsoles with “icy” translucent outsoles complete this design.

The Jordan 5 Anthracite releases this Saturday, February 6th for $190 on the SNKRS app and at select retailers.

Jordan 12 Low SE Super Bowl LV

In anticipation of Super Bowl LV, Jordan is channeling Flu Game vibes with the Jordan 12 Low Black and Metallic Gold. This marks the second time that Jumpman has dedicated a Jordan Retro to the NFL’s biggest stage, the first being a Jordan 10.

The black and red upper of the Jordan 12 Low Super Bowl directly resembles the original Jordan 12 Flu Game, with slight differences in its fabrication. Instead of black tumbled leather, this Jordan 12 Low is constructed of a woven textile. Confetti-themed print on the interior represents celebratory post-game traditions when a new NFL champion is crowned. Tampa Bay’s “813” area code is placed on the inside of the heel tab as an ode to this year’s host city. A black and red sole with carbon fiber detailing on the shoe’s arch wrap up this modified classic.

The Jordan 12 Low Black and Metallic Gold releases this Saturday, February 6th for $190 on the SNKRS app and at select stockists.

Nike Air Force 1 Low Experimental Racer Pink

Nike pays homage to its own sports research lab in its newest Air Force 1 design. The Nike Air Force 1 Low Experimental Racer Pink is inspired by the oxygen masks worn by Nike athletes who test new performance products.

The Racer Pink upper displays a brand new vacuum-sealed treatment that preserves freshness. A neon patch reading, “This Label Is Your Guarantee Of Quality” is located on the heel, serving as a stamp of approval from the Swoosh. Foam is exposed on the edges of the tongue like vintage Nike designs. Dual pull tabs on the tongue and heel, an elastic drawcord with a clear lace lock on the tongue, and gum soles wrap up this unique design.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Experimental Racer Pink drops this Saturday, February 6th for $130 on the SNKRS app and at select stockists.

Nike Dunk High AMBUSH Active Fuchsia

After a preview almost one year ago at New York Fashion Week, Tokyo fashion label AMBUSH and Nike are teaming up once again to deliver a new colorway with the Nike Dunk High Ambush this time in Active Fuchsia. The collaboration nods to the culture surrounding transportation in Japan, which explains the re-imagined proportions on the silhouette that almost make it look aerodynamic.

The Nike Dunk High Ambush Fuchsia arrives with an Active Fuschia leather upper and an exaggerated Swoosh that protrudes the heel. Aside from the re-imagined Swoosh, other features differentiate this design from traditional Nike Dunks like a raised heel counter with significant separation on the back of the shoe, revealing a larger amount of Active Fuschia leather paneling, and an extended plastic unit donning Ambush branding encapsulates the heel. An exposed foam tongue, Active Fuchsia sole, and co-branded tongue tag add the finishing touches to the avant-garde design.

The Nike Dunk High Ambush Fuchsia drops this Thursday, February 4th for $180 on the SNKRS app and at select retailers.

Converse X AMBUSH Duck Boot and Chuck Taylor

One collaboration this week isn’t enough for AMBUSH. On top of releasing a new Nike Dunk High, AMBUSH is launching two new designs in partnership with Converse.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Duck Boot AMBUSH is a fresh take on a 110-year-old wading boot. Its high-cut silhouette, rubberized mud and toe guards, and ghillie lace system are prime for the elements and embody the characteristics of a true fishing essential. The Duck Boot arrives in Triple Black and Blithe Blue palettes, each colorway monotone from the upper to the thick, lugged sole.

The Converse Chuck Taylor AMBUSH Fur takes a glamorous route with its look. Inspired by fur coats of the 90s, the upper and tongue on the Chuck Taylor are completely smothered in either navy blue or black shaggy fur. A co-branded heel label, woven heel tab, and medial All-Star patch add the finishing touches to this furry creation.

The Converse x AMBUSH collection drops this Thursday, February 4th with prices ranging from $140 to $160 on the SNKRS app and at select retailers.

Reebok X Story MFG Club C 85 and Beatnik

UK-based label Story MFG is joining forces with Reebok to release two new designs aimed at sustainability. The collaboration pays tribute to outdoor touring and instills that energy into both Club C 85 and Beatnik silhouettes.

The upper of the Reebok Club C 85 Story MFG is composed of an undyed, woven linen in traditional Club C construction. Very few tweaks have been made to the design in order to retain the natural feeling of the silhouette. The only real outliers in the design come in the form of Story MFG’s branding on the tongue and a peace sign embroidery on the lateral side. The Beatnik takes a more voluminous form as it resembles puffed-up quilting that one might take on a camping trip. An undyed, woven linen comprises the upper of Beatnik as well, along with an embroidered peace sign insignia on the lateral side. Adjustable straps around the heel complete the design.

The Reebok x Story MFG collection will be available this Saturday, February 6th with prices ranging from $120 to $130 on Reebok.com.

Best Sneakers Of 2020

StockX

14144

For most, 2020 is a year to be forgotten. From stay-at-home orders to rescheduled weddings, there aren’t many things that people wish to remember about the beginning of the new decade. At StockX we love to see the positive in things, and 2020 was one hell of a year for sneaker releases. It was a year full of surprises and unorthodox releases, and each pushed sneaker culture into new frontiers. With so many great releases from 2020, we expect big things in 2021.

We would be doing this list a major injustice without starting it off with the Air Jordan 1 Dior. Jordan Brand and fashion label Dior instantly shocked the sneaker world when speculation of the collaboration started to surface. Like most early rumors around high-profile kicks, information is constantly changing. But when lookbook images by Dior, featuring Travis Scott, were put on the internet, the shoe’s release was all but confirmed and early resale prices hit 5-figures! The Jordan 1 Dior’s release was a major milestone in sneaker culture. Now, sneakers are just as, if not more, valuable than your run-of-the-mill dress shoe, and hold more weight in high-end environments now than before. The Dior Jordan collaboration brought to light the current resale value of the sneaker illustrates its luxurious value, averaging around $10K. For its rarity and role it played in advancing sneaker culture, the Dior Jordan 1 deserves to kick off our Best Sneakers Of 2020 list.

Before the release of his first New Balance collection, Joe Freshgoods showcased a shirt on his IG featuring a tweet from a user that said, “never did I hear somebody wait in line for a pair of NB’s.” The Chicago-based designer was just that confident that his work would bring out a large audience. When release day struck, he defied the naysayers as the project produced a mile-long line outside of his Chicago pop-up, as fans eagerly waited outside in the cold for a chance at copping. The partnership produced apparel and two sneakers, one of which was theNew Balance 992. The collaboration turned the traditional dad sneaker into a colorful piece of footwear, made with a mix of suede, premium leather, and reflective materials. Due to its limited release, resale prices were through the roof on StockX, where they’ve reached as high as $2,500. They’re one of the most expensive New Balance sneakers to be traded on our site and continue to increase in value. The collab not only added value to the 992 model, but to New Balance as a whole. On StockX, New Balance’s market share increased almost 3x since last year. The No Emotions Are Emotions pack helped prove to sneakerheads that New Balance is a brand to watch, for the sake of resale profits and as a brand with momentum.

Air Jordan 4 Fire Red

Everything’s better with Nike Air on the heel. The return of the Air Jordan 4 Fire Red continued to solidify that sentiment. News of the return of the OG 1989 colorway started to break on sneaker blogs as early as March, feeding the hype for the Jordan 4 Fire Red. The famous red and white colorway was last retroed in 2012, alongside its Bred and White Cement counterparts. But unlike the other original colorways, the Fire Red had yet to receive the OG treatment, and have that one feature all sneakerheads love: Nike Air heel tab branding. Jordan sneakers returning to their OG design always creates a lot of fanfare. The release of the Jordan 4 Fire Red delivered a dose of nostalgia while establishing a new standard for reissued Air Jordan models. In addition to the Nike Air branding, the Jordan 4 Fire Red brought back the sneaker’s original padding and leather vamping, making it a true return to OG form.

New Balance 2002R Salehe Bembury

New Balance had quite 2020. From working with Jaden Smith to Aime Leon Dore, the Boston brand delivered thoughtful designs and projects which helped push them into the limelight. When former Versace Footwear designer Salehe Bembury was tapped to add his touch to the 2002R model, New Balance reached a higher plateau. The collaboration added hairy elements to the old school runner with the addition of brighter materials making the sneaker pop in comparison to New Balance’s quintessential grey colorways. Not only was the sneaker executed uniquely, but also the design was so admired that it provided the final push to crown Salehe Footwear New’s Designer Of The Year. This New Balance sneaker played a pivotal role in turning the athletic brand onto a newer generation, helping to make NB more active in current sneaker culture.

Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead

Grateful Dead’s collaboration on the Nike SB Dunk Low played a major role in SB Dunk’s increase in average resale pricing. Just like this year’s Chunky Dunky drop, the Nike SB Grateful Dead Dunk collaboration is another project that speaks to Nike SB’s creative ethos. Composed of teddy-bear like fur paying homage to the band’s Dancing Bears mascot, the project produced three vibrant colorways representative of the band’s brand as a whole. Reviews were mixed within the public on whether or not the sneakers were worth the hype, because of their flamboyant features. But resale value speaks for itself, as the pack is reselling for over 3000% of its retail price, making it one of the most profitable sneakers of 2020.

Air Jordan 4 Off White

After debuting in the Off-White FW20 Women’s fashion show earlier this year, the AJ4 Sail had people eagerly waiting for its release. With much anticipation and following a popular Air Jordan 5 collaboration from February, a release date was dropped and official imagery from Nike solidified its summer release. Exclusively made for women, the Air Jordan 4 Sail incorporated familiar deconstructed design elements used by Virgil Abloh on his other Jordan projects. It was met with great excitement by sneakerheads because of its execution and its exclusivity.
